Harry Byrd Highway (Route 7) viewed from Bears Den, a large outcropping of white rock and famous viewpoint on the Appalachian Trail. This route, which passes through Snicker's Gap, is one of old roads in use before the inception of Loudoun County in 1757. Bears Den lies about a mile up the mountain from the village. Picnics at Bears Den were popular among summer visitors during Bluemont's railroad heyday. Return to Special Places.
